On October 6, 2026, Isaias Anthony Rios left this world far too soon at the age of 23. A beloved son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend, Isaias was a bright light in the lives of so many. He touched countless lives and his absence leaves an immeasurable emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Born on August 14, 2003, in Holland, Michigan, Isaias grew up surrounded by family and friends in a community that he would call home throughout his life. From an early age, he possessed a special combination of kindness, determination, humor, thoughtfulness, and natural charisma. He had a larger than life personality and a megawatt smile that would light up an entire room. Isaias had a heart that cared deeply for others, made those around him laugh or feel special simply by being himself, and had a remarkable way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Isaias left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
At just two years old, Isaias was already dribbling a basketball and shooting hoops, beginning a lifelong passion for the game. As he grew, so did his talent, competitive spirit, and determination, becoming a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. Basketball was more than a sport to Isaias; it was a reflection of the grit, discipline, and incredible work ethic that defined him. Beyond the competition, he treasured the friendships, camaraderie, and lifelong bonds he built with his teammates. The memories made both on and off the court, the laughter shared, and the brotherhood formed were even more meaningful to him than the game itself.
Isaias attended West Ottawa Public Schools and proudly graduated from West Ottawa High School in 2021. He continued his education through college coursework and was pursuing a future as an electrician. He was a hardworking and driven young man with goals and dreams, and he took great pride in everything he did. His polite and thoughtful nature, paired with his fun-loving spirit and contagious smile, made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Beyond his dedication to work and basketball, Isaias had a genuine love for life and the people in it. He loved music, enjoyed traveling, attending concerts and sporting events, cheering on his favorite teams, and making memories with countless friends. He had a special gift for connecting with people, and his kindness was often found in the little things: a small gesture, an encouraging word, a heartfelt laugh, or one of his unforgettable hugs.
Above all, Isaias loved his family. He was a cherished son who brought profound pride and joy to his parents. He was a loving brother who led by example, encouraged his siblings to be their best, and always found ways to make them smile. He was everything his parents could have hoped for in a son, and the privilege of loving him and being loved by him will forever be one of their greatest gifts.
Isaias was a child of God and follower of Jesus, and faith was an important part of his life. His name, Isaias, is the Spanish form of Isaiah, meaning “God is salvation.” It is a beautiful and meaningful name for a young man whose life, although far too short, was filled with love, purpose, and a spirit that touched countless hearts.
Isaias is survived by his loving parents, Louis and Jessica Rios, and Yesenia Caamal and Javy Garcia; his beloved siblings, Arisella and Ava Rios, Dominic Camaal, and Lianna, Nathaniel, and Gabriel Garcia; his grandparents, Mary Rios, Rick and Lisa Schwander, and Raul Caamal; and great-grandmother Irene Nykamp. He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Isaias was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gregorio Rios; his grandmother, Irma Caamal; his great-grandfather, Craig Nykamp, and his cousin Avery Rios.
There are simply no words to describe the heartbreak of losing someone so deeply loved, with so much life still ahead of him. Twenty-three years was not nearly enough time. While his time on this earth was far too brief, the impact Isaias made will last a lifetime. He will be remembered for the way he loved others and the light he brought into their lives. His memory is a reminder to hold our loved ones close, check in on one another, offer kindness freely, and never miss an opportunity to tell someone how much they are loved.
Isaias, you were our pride, our joy, and one of the greatest blessings of our lives. We will carry your smile in our memories, your love in our hearts, and your spirit with us for all of our days. All who knew and loved Isaias, whose lives he touched, or who wish to surround his family with love and support are warmly invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of his life.
Forever 23. Forever loved. Forever in our hearts.
