PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 31, 2026) – Wearing a life jacket may have prevented a tragedy in the waters of Lake Macatawa on Sunday afternoon.
Park Township crews were dispatched to Big Bay, off of Waukazoo Drive, around 2:45 PM on a report of a capsized 16- to 18-foot boat with a person in the water, about 100 yards offshore. By the time they reached the scene, a nearby boat was able to right the vessel, and the person, who was wearing a life jacket, was standing in waist-deep water. The victim was taken to shore, apparently unhurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
